it's actually pretty easy to do...
when you exit tower 3 theres a phantom that picks up arby, blow it up with a fuel rod gun then get into a gauss hog with him in the turret, it's actually just as fun as the tank, when you get to the scarab area you can leave him and egt your hornet, blow up both scarabs and the new phantom arrives carrying another arby...
but you probably did it by accident like this...
if arby didn't get into the door when you get to the citadel and cortana does her screen mess up thing and the cutscene comes on, when it's over you get a new arby and if you run ahead too far (the light bridge) he will teleport and so will the old one, you probably got 2 because you were rushing...

on the floodgate level you could turn a flood guy into a friend and he starts fighting the other flood for you

you bring him to the next half of the level shadow of intent and you just push him while he's alive the let him get infected and you got a new buddy with a handgun
