I must admit out of the new generation of games, that is one game that had me nearly break down in tears because of that damn part in God mode.
PC posted up a link to some posts that has the exact same strategy that I would recommend. Also, don't forget that you can hold the O button to hug Kratos family for a longer period - I didn't know this the whole time that I attempted that insance battle. The Kratos clones are sometimes so powerful that they will even hit his family during the middle of a Poseidon's Rage.
To top off the frustration of that battle, your game may sometimes freeze in the Ares battle right afterward leaving you with no option but to reset the console and try the clone battle over again. Mine froze twice on me - once during the Ares battle and again at the Gate of Olympus. Needless to say, I almost broke a system because of that game.
I got through it all... eventually.
