Be intuitive. Use different strategies againt different enemies. Learn to utilise your surroundings and equipment. Also, adopt a die-hard attitude, like Jackal said, and never give up. Give it your all, but don't use mere brute force. Use your brain, intuition, skill, attitude and force as one. That's the key to success.

Just keep trying. No matter what don't give up, I died over and over and over again but stuck at it and beat it on my third play through...Lengendary was hard no doubt but I thought the famed Lengendary difficulty was tougher in the other two games, maybe it's because I could never beat Halo or Halo2 on Legendary
If you have to in some areas just run right through instead of stopping and fighting eveything, especially the flood infested levels. Otherwise, take cover, let those sheilds recharge and keep at it...you'll get it eventually
And try using different weapons, I myself preferred duel wielding the Spiker and Plasma Rifle...very effective
