ae u sure about that ?? i'm not accusing u or anything but before i had the GT500 or the 240SX, i was using a Subaru Impreza STi with stage 4 engine & transmission... the gear changing was smooth, there wasn't any lag or delay like wat u said... could be the car though, not every 4WD car shifts with a delay...

grip>> evo, audi s4, ford gt
    drag>> m3 e92(great) ,zonda ,gt 500
    Speed>> skyline proto, toyota supra
    Drif>> z4 M, rx-7, viper srt10

In the and it all comes down to your driving style!! Cars dont matter all that much.

My brother dives a skyline in the grip events and thinks its the best car for the job, even gives me a run for my money in a evo.
My days are numberd on this earth, soon the angel of death will come to take me into the afterlife. There is no stoping that which has already began!!

Driving style is an important factor, granted, but races do not come down to driving skill alone. Your car really does help you win races, and in the end you will not just credit yourself, but the car as well.

Winning races comes down to three things, each equally important except maybe skill because sheer power in this game can make up for crappy turning:

    - Your Car
    - How much You Tuned Your Car
    - Skill

I say that skill might not be as important because I've noticed that me EVO X is so powerful that I can overtake people while driving off the track. Because of the driving style of previous NFS's, I don't take this game seriously so when I screw up a turn I just drive onto the grass and blow by everyone
