Ok i keep seeing this when i shoot a grunt in the back the big pointy thing falls off and a gas like vapor comes out. Does anyone have any clue to what this does, Or does it have no meaning?

They are methane tanks to keep them alive outside of their natural environment. Their home planet was an ice planet I believe.

Sweet cause me and a friend were playing and he shot it off and didnt shoot it again then it just kind of died.

well by the way it was actuly a gas calm the grunts down when they panic and they liven on a green lush forest planet with rivers so they were not needing to fight until the covenent came to force them into thier army and that teel the gas and why there are weak i hope this helps .

On halo 1 and 2 the grunts sounnded alot more childish on halo 3 they sound more older and well gruntish

Ya, its an effective way to get through the campaign, just shoot it off and move onto a larger threat

When I was playing halo (a loooooooooong time ago before halo 2 & 3) I bumped into a bunch of grunts and ran back round the corner to load my rifle. I was late meeting some friends so I left mid game but in a rush and forgot to pause it. I came back and all the grunts were dead. I told a m8 and apparently if you leave the game playing for so long their methane tanks run out!!
Although I doubt you want to wait for several hours staring out the window when a bullet between the eyes is just as good...

The Grunts would have killed you if you left the game unpaused...and even if they were running around frantically, I'm sure Bungie didn't put that much detail into the game...
