Have you tried adjusting the compatability settings?
To do this right click on your desktop shortcut for the game and select 'properties'
under the 'compatability' tab will be a dropdown menu, i would suggest selecting 'Win XP sp2' or 'Win Me/98'
apply the settings then execute the program as normal.

This should work for both of the KotOR games

A additional suggestion is 'run as administrator'
