all ya need to do is have luck booster armor and just go for the tails only. if your unsuccessful in your carve, abandon the quest and do it again. when you do get a ruby or plate dont abandon quest otherwise you lose your reward , instead just die from the wyvern. The only thing you will lose is the money on the contract. And there you go , easy method of obtaining these precious items.
Recommendation on armor :
* velociprey mask * velociprey body * Black belt vembraces * Cephalos tesset U * Cephalos greaves U
For defence perposes. If you cant get this get armor that has alot of fate and alos some armor that has torso inc. to increase these effects. Cheers

Ya i thought so to , my partner came up with that idea , cant believe i didnt figure that out , its all common sense if you ask me now that you think about it.
