I Cannot decide if I would preload it now with steam or buy a boxed copy, my main question is: Will trainers work for the steam version as well as the retail version?

I like the idea of having it on steam because its so easy to run and reinstall if I need to and also the fact it doesn't require a DVD to play is nice, I have to switch a lot of DVD's now a days.

Get it off steam, you don't have to worry about keeping track of Cd's, just as long as you remember your PW. One would assume that trainers would work, as I downloaded gary's mod off steam and the mods for that game work just fine. Not to mention you'll save money on gas and sales tax depending on where you live.

    9) Did you download the game from Direct2Drive or STEAM? Many times these download services sell a slightly modified version of the game in order to make them compatible with downloading and playing without a CD/DVD. Trainers rely on very specific memory locations or game files in order to work. The slightest change in the game's code could cause the trainer to fail. If you're using one of these downloaded versions, this could be the case. Always mention if you have one of these versions if you're reporting a problem with a trainer. Sometimes applying a no-cd "fix" to these downloaded versions will make them compatible with the trainer and is always something to try.

    Trainer Troubleshooting guide FTW.

I am just wondering why the Steam Version has the same release date as the retail version from amazon.co.uk ???

Why should steam users have to wait??

I say release it on the 21st!!! NOT the 24th, cause that means its just 3 days doing sweet sod all to it....kinda a waste and an insult.

Here in North America they are releasing it on steam on August 21st.

I see you live in the United Kingdom and it will not be released to stores until the 24th so I would assume that Steam (or ANY one no matter the store) would not be allowed to release it EARLY, they would be sued by the company much like the Harry Potter books that leaked out and every store that lost out on a sale because it was released 3 days earlier that it should have been.

Sorry but buying online doesn't mean early products
