Actually, number 4 would be cool, if it were like the game Mount and Blade, where you would control only your general, in first person view.

Well they actaully did put 2 in total war empire, and i think 4, I don't care what happens with 3, but 1 would kinda ruin it

1) good idea but would make the upgrading tack to long. 2)they have 3) would ruin the map 4) would make it imposible to comand your army as a whole.

Personally, i thought they did a good job with the game and maybe they might recreate the total war series with naval battles and not just have empire total war with naval battles

The first person view wouldn't be as bad as you think. There's lots of fps/rts hybrids out there so you could move your army into position then zoom down to first person to move your general and fight.
As for rotating the map, it would be good but not really a big deal.
Also, What about a Total War - Modern Warfare... Or something, where you got marines and vehicles In keeping with the Total War game play tho!
