I recommend Chimchar. Turtwig eventually has a huge weakness to flying attacks, so do not use him. Piplup just doesn't learn many good attacks. Chimchar is one of the only fire types in the game, so unless you catch a ponyta, you'll be in for some trouble.
i didnt have a problem against flying with turtwig. since it was the only one i used, it was always around 10-15 levels above the people i had to battle, i could just use crunch or something against the flying pokemon, which was normally efective.

o my gosh piplup/prinplup/empoleon learn the freakin best water moves like aqua jet hydro pump brine an i taught him grass knot you should teach your infernape it to cause that could help with the water but any way sry an thats pretty cool how i like piplup savage turtwig an you chimchar
