I believe there is life in other Galaxies, 'cause we're not alone, but not on other planets in our galaxy.

I think there is. We cannot go about assuming we are alone. There are hundreds, if not thousands of galaxies out there. There must be a chance of another planet similar to Earth, with water, light, a whole ecosystem capable of breeding life. I am sure that by the time the millenium is over, if not less in time, humans will make contact with Extra-Terrestrials. I am almost sure of it. I strongly doubt that we are the sole race of the universe. That very concept of us being alone is almost... well... surreal, in a way.

There has been an 'Earth-like' planet discovered already.

It is about 20 light years away and would take us about 400,000 years to get there with our fastest of spaceships.

I bet you if they sent a probe with an ion-drive engine, it would take significantly less time. We will see this planet... maybe not the next few generations, but definitely before the next millenium. Technology is advancing so much, it's scary. We went from wooden ships to full scale rockets in the space of 100 years. You can't ignore that fact.

I suppose it's only been since the Industrial Revolution that technology has shown some significant signs of advancing. Before then we were all pretty much brain-dead when it came to technology and everyone was praying for everything. It was a very religious world, before the Industrial Revolution. But all thats changed now. We got electricity, planes, cars, iPhones, X360x, PS3s and God knows what else. It's just crazy how we went from steam engines to iPhones in just over 100 years.

Yeah, but what if we didden't go to them but they came to us, that would be pretty scary and magnificent for most inhabitants of earth. Especially scientests.

I suppose so... but NASA and SETI have radars and sensors that detect any electromagnetic waves coming from space. These creatures would have to be pretty good at keeping in their waves to catch us by surprise. Otherwise SETI and NASA will be aware, and the Earth could be braced for alien invasion.
