I think its far more likely they come peacefully if they come at all. If they were to come aggresivly it would be for resources, however anything you can find on earth is available without confrontation elsewhere, water (and extractable oxygen) from mars' ice caps. Hydrogen from the sun, etc. Also, were far less advanced than they are, they don't really have a reason to come here. Then again, earth may just be the next "Caribbean of the universe" a vacation spot of sorts. But that's a bit far-fetched and weird, so I'll stop there.

What if they are just advanced as us and we kind develop the same/similar technology at the same time?

Well, another scenario would be that they develop advanced space travel while we develop other technologies that they would like. in that case its a win-win situation.

what if its all fake and the Matrix was actually a revelation to us all.

UFO's and Aliens are separate matters IMO.
UFO = Unidentified Flying Object
could be anything, Aliens is just one of millions of possibilities

I do believe there is other life. Not like in the movies of course, but more realistic. Maybe a planet inhabited by the equivalent of our dinosaurs, or maybe more like us. Wether there is or not, I dont think billions should be wasted each year trying to find out, as we're simply not advanced enough, and we have enough problems of our own without going and butting into other life forms business.

and all the UFO sightings are just lights in the sky, no acctual fully visible flying objects
