try this.... Easy way to get as much renown in the shiny new Silent Hunter 4 is to: Start the game Go into Career Make a new career (enter the nick etc) with some test name (you’re not gonna use it later on) Go out of the game Find CareerStart.upc file (under X:\Silent Hunter4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\UPCData\UPCCampaignData) Edit the file with Notepad (NOT WINWORD!) 10th line from the top starts from “RenownOptions” > Edit it so it looks like “RenownOptions = 1000, 2000, 5000000 (can be any number, 5000000 worked for me just fine) Save the file Start the game Go into Career Make a new career with the nick you’re gonna use for real Choose year 1941 Under Renown in the bottom dropdown box choose 5000000 Done Steps 1 to 4 are needed ONLY if you haven’t started the Career yet.

right click on the file
select "OPEN"
(Box pops up saying windows cant open file blah blah.. gives 2 options 1. ask web service to find or 2. select program from list.)
click "select program from list" then hit "OK"
this will bring up another little window/box. Inside it will be a list of programs. Scroll through and find "Notepad"
IMPORTANT !!! READ THIS !! MAKE SURE THAT THE LITTLE BOX NEAR THE BOTTOM """ALLWAYS USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM TO OPEN THIS KIND OF FILE""" <<< IS NOT CHECKED .. Unless you know what your doing.. :P
ok once you click on "notepad" hit "Ok" and notepad will open up and you can edit the file all you want.
Also.. DO NOT USE THE SAVE AS feature when you are done. Just use SAVE. If you use save as . you will wind up creating a txt file etc..
