Is there a general limit?
I started off as England, 4 children, they marry have kids. 3 generals had 4 kids, 1 general had 3 kids (including adoptions).
I assume 4 children is the max for a couple.
Now here is where I get into trouble, of the 15 offspring only 2 of the sons got brides, the rest are in 40's and still not married. Half the daughters weren't married until they were very old, no children. Some daugthers were never offered husbands at all. Of the few marriages I have had 2 kids were born and they seem to coincide with deaths.
Also I have zero "heros of the hour" pop up for new generals during all this.
Is there some limit to number of generals? It's semi frustrating.

You could always change the file to make general units in your recruit que.
What is the trigger for generals getting married?

there is no visible trigger for this... also, i believe this is random... if your princesses can move around try to marry them with generals of other factions... they can fail or they can win... try to increase their charm because a princess with 2 or less charm that marries in considered ugly and will decrease the chance of having babies... I am byzantine in the year 1211 and i have 9 general, all married, all with 2-3 children, one of them has seven! 5 of them ar boys... Don`t send them away while they`re young and you can marry your princess to generals outside the royal family (like in byzantium where you can marry the comnen daughters with characters not bearing the name comnen) and if you want to cheat, add to your generals the doctor and apothecary ancillaries as soon as they`re married... i think they give the general viagra of sorts
Its nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.
