I know I'm going to sound incredibley stupid, but in the beginning at the Louvre Mueseum, I cannot find the pole I'm supposed to hit the guard over the head with. All the walkthroughs says the exact same thing---"on the ground"---but I have looked everywhere and I cannot find that stinking pole. Someone help me!

How do you mean?

If you walk around in the museum you should see objects on the floor that shine. Take your time to look around. Walk slower. Especially when you are in the end room and you're about to retrieve the uv light. its on the floor just before you get to the guard. It should say "pick up" or something at the bottom of the screen. hope this helps in any way
