Well, you should know when its dead. It says all requested monster slain. But if you are just on a random mission and feel like killing him. I suggest doing what i do and throw a stone at it to see if its dead or not (if you dont have stones throw paintball). If he doesn't get up he is dead
Try it out. It's my way of having less chance of dying

or if you ask me just hit it on the head with your weapon and dodge out the way as soon as you hit him he cant reach you in his attempts to throttle you when he gets up

I do now i dident when I was a newb but I hate them and i dont want to take the time to check the quest info but basarios are really predictable like they do somthen weird right befor they charge and they look around and put their feet closer togeather befor they spray poison gass and they turn sidwase a little befor they do that thrust thing. those rubber thing are not as slow and predictable.

Oh well, I just think I'm better with the gypeceros. But, when you go to slay it i suggest taking something with defence like GS or s&s. Why? Well because at some point it wil look like he is sneezing. and after a couple of times he will spray i wide area of light (which will blind you of course) so just get into defence and it will block hte light.
