do you have to feed the chocobos lots of greens to get their stats up before you race them? help me please

You can race any chocobo in your barn, but if you want to win then you should give them lots of greens.
Getting a golden chocobo can cost around 1,000,000 Gil, I suggest mastering an all materia as they can be sold for 1,400,000 Gil.
If you hold R1 + R2 during a race you'll raise your chocobo's stamina.

if you feed them the greens you buy from the chocobo sage you get the best quality. You really only need to worry about feeding the great or wonderful chocobos. A good or fair chocobo isn't really worth racing anyway. Also if you can get the w-item materia you can get 2 greens and then make an unlimited number of greens using the materia through a glitch in the game...it will save you a lot of money.
