ummmm, when the guy on the boat(o'aka XXIII), should i lend him some or not???

YES! He gets better equipment and u can buy it cheaper, if u give him more money. U can keep lending him until the mihein highroad. If u lend him at 10,001 gil u get a huge discount later in the game and he sells better equipment. To pay 10,001 gil u might have to do it intevarls, pay a litlle bit here and there.

Minor early spoiler:
The best time to get money in in Luca when the Al Behd kidnap Yuna and you can fight the machina, everytime you beat one it will drop either a Hi-potion or an X-Potion, Hi-Potions can be sold for 125 gill each so if you spand enough time in Luca at that point you can give him a substancial amount of money early on.

but i read online that its pretty much worthless. cause i spend soooo much money, just to get a small discount during the end of the game. and at the end of the game i can even ask him to lower the prices wehn he asks me if his prices are too high.

Even after you tell him to lower his prices he will charge you 50% extra for every item and weapon you buy from him.

EG, a potion will cost 75 Gill (if you don't give him money) 50 Gill from a normal shop (Rin) and about 30 Gill if you give him a lot of money.
