You need to have your OD's up on Wakka and Tidus, to get Wakka's attack reels you need to play blitz ball until they a pier and then you can win them.
You should have Ally by that point, if you don't then just fight around and you should get it on one of your turns.
If you buy from the merchants on the shore, check the price of the items first, the merchants will raise the price by the same % that they raise their weapons so you can tell which ones are ripping you off more than the others.
Having Thunder strike in your weapons will double your basic attack power. Anything that defends against blind will be helpful; raising your Defence should be your second priority in armour.

my brother beat it his first try you must have low level characters cause it looked easy to beat.
