Super Smash Brothers: Melee Discussion
Captain Falcon is the WORST in home run derby!
He cant hit the bag right!
All i got was about 50 feet from him..
Really? Maybe you didn't hit him the right way. Rather than using the bat with the over control, try using the down control. It worked really well for me, we're talking 503 feet well.
Actually that is one of the only examples. You see, Marth's attacks are actually more powerful than Roy's. The key is to hit the opponent with the tip of Marth's sword. Hitting in this way makes moves do up to twice as much damage as normal and also much more knockback. Marth is also heavier than Roy (test it on the scale in the Mushroom Kingdom!), meaning he doesn't get knocked as far when he's hit. In addition, Marth falls more slowly so it is easier to recover to the stage when you are knocked away. And, Marth's up+B goes higher than Roy's.
Although it is true that Roy's Flare Blade can be very powerful, hitting with it is basically impossible. It takes 4 seconds to load fully! Do you really think an opponent would not see it coming and avoid the move? Four seconds! That's more than enough for any opponent to get out of the way, except perhaps a computer... For that reason, Roy's Flare Blade is near useless. You just can't hit with it effectively.
Some people think that Roy is better because his moves look cooler. Some even set opponents "on fire". However, it should be noted that looking cooler is not criterea for being a better character. The "fire" effects are just that--effects--and do not contribute to the damage or knockback of the move. Again, if you hit with the tip of Marth's sword when you do his attacks, they actually outdo Roy's move both in damage and knockback.
Marth is also quicker than Roy, not just in dashing but also in the speed at which he executes his moves. If you switch between Marth and Roy you will see that Marth's moves generally come out faster, giving your opponent less time to react. His moves also end more quickly, giving you more freedom to chain together multiple moves.
For these reasons, it really is true that Marth is better than Roy.
Regarding the Home Run Contest with Captain Falcon, you should actually be using Falcon Punch, neutral+B, to knock away the Sandbag. At high damages this goes enormous distances. My record is just over 4 thousand feet, I believe. The bag was on over 200 damage at the end. But doing that takes a lot of practice. You should aim for something like 1000 first.
I can beat a LV9 Roy with Pichu in a 3-life battle. And I have at least 2 lives left.
I can beat a LV9 Marth with Bowser in a 3-life match, but I only have 1 life left.
