I am at teh same point in the game. I think I have gotten all the keys and stuff on the first floor of the desert palace but if you go to the left hand side in the bottom corner and go into the room with the spinning eye thing the door closes when you open it. and when you go into the room with the two big one eyed thugs and the sand there is a button under a jar how come I can't step on it? How do I get past these eye things?

if you stand in the corner the laser can't get you next push down the middle block on the right side if that dosent work then i don't know what to tell you but if it does hurry through the floors until you get to the room with the crab shoot it with arrows then light the stone things with your lamp
