You're probably doing everything wrong. First load your trainer then load the game. While at the main screen of the game, activate the trainer. Load your game. When editing, press C first to go to the character's screen. You can edit the gold here if you want. Then choose the character you want to edit. Choose how much experience you want added for next battle. You experience will be applied AFTER a battle. Edit the Attribute points as well (just don't go crazy on the amount). Editing Attribute and Talent points at the same time will not work so I always edit them separately. Make sure you switch from Editor mode to Trainer mode so that the new values will be saved to that character. Then exit out of the Character screen (C). Then press C again, choose character, and edit the Talent Points if you want. I hope this helps.
