For Selected Unit, click a Unit on the map, then the PORTRAITS show up which armies are in that unit. Click on a ARMY PORTRAIT to show the data for the ARMY. HEROES also share some data with UNITS.

Experience:
For Selected Unit, click a Unit on the map, then the PORTRAITS show up which armies are in that unit. Click on a HERO PORTRAIT to show the data for the HERO.

I'm obviously an idiot. how do I use the editor? I put numbers in the gold/influence etc and nothing happens in game.

Watch for when the values are filled in to reflect what you have in-game, then change the value, hit TAB after changing the value. then either save and load or spent / use something.

for example if you change gold, spent some gold.
