So it seems that with the current version of the game, if you have the trainer activated you are unable to send out exploration subs.
And this is with no options activated, just the actual trainer.
Request to update trainer submited, just curious if anyone else had the same problem.
I need save game or your update request will be rejected.
This save has a point of interest ready, you only need to press M and select it.
Out two crew on the sub and you can send it to check out the point, but when the trainer is activated the "SEND SUB" button stays red even though all the resources and crew is ready.
Close the trainer and the button turn blue again.

could you please make a short recording or multiple screenshots so I could see what's the issue exactly? if I can't reproduce the issue then I can't fix it.

Those two are mining subs, they are not the problem they have simply exhausted the mining beacon that was where they are.
To check things like points of interest, biomes and such, you have to use a exploration sub.
There is one docked on the back of the central hub, but to use it you have to press "M".
1: Doing that opens the "submarine command", and to the left and up there is a teal colored point of interest called "decimated whale".
When you press on that you get a smaller screen that has info on it, resource cost and a red button that says "must assign crew".
2: Crew is assigned by pressing in the two squares above "stock needed"
When that is done the button under will turn teal and say "send sub".
But if the trainer is activated the button will still say "send sub", but it will be red.
If you then close the trainer, and remove and add crew, it will turn teal again.
I hope I have done an ok job of explaining it this time 🙂
