using the steam linked method. idk if it only works through the EA app?!
or is it because i use the free 10h EA play "version"?

That is likely the issue, you are using basically a DEMO version of the game and not the real thing. The option works. Period. Video'd and demonstrated.
There is not specific Origins trainer setting in Aurora, Steam trainer works with it fine?
