I know this game has been a source of headaches for the team with all the updates it gets and I can see not updating a trainer every time, that said is there no happy middle ground here? Something along the lines of a status of a game being:

Stable (not been updated in a 1 month): When an update comes out is updated soon

Updated Recently (will not be updated updated until 'Stable' again with AAA titles maybe being an exception)

Unstable (more than 1-3 patches in one month): Game will be updated in 1-2 months based on trainer staff workload with an update if it goes past 2 months (simple forum post).

Just an idea but a system like this would allow a bit more understanding on both ends I think. As it stands now as the end user we see games like this thrown under the bus with no idea of staff intentions beyond 'on hold' and with moderators stepping down hard in some cases. I get the frustration but we as gamers and customers do not deserve it nor do you deserve us acting entitled on headache inducing games. I appreciate all you do and if I could afford a monthly sub I would do so and I feel my lifetime sub was well worth it. I just see a lot of staff frustration at times and I am not sure if you can see from our ends how it comes off because we are not the cause (beyond idiots that can not read or act like entitled kids), we just want to enjoy the games we like.

I humbly request an update off 'on hold' when able as I would like to return to this game but playing it can be a headache at times without the trainer. Thank you for your time and I hope I am not coming off entitled myself because I truly do respect what the team here must deal with daily.
