The game is still getting regular updates, it even got an update today. once the updates slow down it can be updated.

While you wait, have a look at the "A little modding" post (Link). I tweaked the AmmoOnArmor_02_Heroes.xml and Units_02_Heroes.xml to even the odds a little.
