Game is currently in Early Access - It is online only at the moment and should have a singleplayer once released in a couple of months.

It's basically an online MMO. That's why we skipped it.

Only because it's early access and just released. Torchlight has always been both single and co-op/multiplayer.

Torchlight 1 and 2 yes. Torchlight 3 is, as of now, released, early access, broken, incomplete, badly rated and as Pwizard said MMO / always online. If they said they will release a singleplayer I suggest to wait and see if they do. And if they did, we can always come back to it.
