I start up the trainer before the game is running and the trainer says the game is already running. Thought I was getting cabin fever so I checked my processes and background processes, nothing. I decided to go ahead and run the game and activate the trainer the trainer fails, i check the log and I get this:
23:30:10: Failed attaching to process. Very likely the game is protected by anticheat software. Please check out the trainer notes to see if there are any special instructions.
I'm not running the multiplayer client. I am just running singleplayer native with no mods.

Pretty sure this is a user error if someone could help nudge me in the right direction, would be much appreciated.

this happens to me with other games sometimes.
try opening the console / command prompt from the start menu in windows and typing "taskkill /t /f /im bannerlord.exe"
or whatever the game's exe is running
that should remove all processes but if your pc is anything like mine, do it again to make sure and if the command prompt tells you it cannot end processes, you're going to have to restart your computer and then you can run the game and the trainer.
Trainers have a habit of latching onto the first process it finds in the task list and therefore doesn't work. Often those first processes are already ended but somehow are left in the task list anyway without anyway to remove them without restarting the computer. Hope this helps.

Have you gone through the troubleshooting checklist and made sure you have the right version of the trainer?

This usually means the Trainer is being blocked, probably by an AV, check your software.
