I ended up quitting out of the game, booting it back up without the trainer and verifying I was able to both greet and antagonize people, then enabling the trainer. Once I did this, it seemed to work properly during my play session.

When you have easy hunting on, NPCs dont respond to you, including people in your camp, turn of this option when you want to interact with camp members

Its known issue, that you need to turn off "use item gives max" before you buy anything in game. If you accidentally reset your money. Set the money on pickup value to what cash you had before, then go sell something like an apple to get your money back. just remember to turn off "use item gives max" when buying things.

Have not had this particular issue, but something related could resolve it.

After playing the game (story mode) for a good span of time game will crash with a graphics error. Through trial and error I've fixed this by re-running benchmarking. The new benchmarking graphics settings are unchanged from what they were before the crash, but this somehow "clears the slate", like deleting a browser cache.

You might try that and see what happens.
