the most up to date trainer doesn't support the steam version. I downloaded it and it says trainer can not find game.

That is not meant for Steam, the one below that works just fine.
After I've edited Attribute points with the trainer every time I've load a save game now the HUD shows that I have 214612789 attribute points to spend and in the Attributes UI panel there is -6 points. I've made a 6 hours progress until I've noticed this. Any way to fix it?
Points use have to equal the amount spent or using the correct multiplier, you will need to tinker with it to get the right numbers. You can reset the points with the editor as much as you want, it's the way the game was coded, no work around, it's just simple math to figure the correct input values.
I'm having the same issue. The problem is even if you do adjust the point in the trainer to the correct value, it resets every time you load a save. So the bug still persist
