So thanks to the trainer I've got all the money I'll ever need but I still need skills to make use of the money anyone have any tips on getting skills?

The game is heavily editable and needs no trainer. It was designed to be this way. To add more skill points you just have to go into the MOD folder, find the folder for your character's name and look for player.data.txt and edit the txt file. It's very easy to give yourself money, skill points, etc.
You can also go into the ships directory and edit any ship you own. Each one has it's own text file. But be careful with this file, it can leave you with an unusable ship with no equipment ! Always make backup files before editing!
