Just read some stats about this and was surprised to see some significant differences of opinion about it.

One source stated that sales for all games went from 80% Physical and 20% Digital in 2009 to 21% Physical and 79% Digital in 2017. But another story -- (Link said 75% of AAA games are bought on physical media. The first story being about all games, the latter about AAA games.

This PC of mine is almost 5 years old and has 2 optical drives, a reader and a burner. But 3 friends of mine that recently bought or built new PC's all opted for additional hard drive space and don't have an optical drive at all. I'll probably move one of these optical drives to a new PC I want later this year just to have one.

There's a lot of factors such as internet access, data caps and speed, brick and mortar versus online, gamers that buy collectible copies, trading games, physical storage space and clutter, and other factors.

I'd guess most of us download games from the various online sources such as Steam, Ubisoft, Origin, MS Store, Epic Store etc., but what do you guys think, are you buying any physical copies these days? Do your new PC's even have optical drives in them?

Good point Jaks, my new machine won't have any physical readers, the first reason for me is that there's no place in my city to get games on DVD/CD, the next reason is that it's so easy to use thumb drives/USB flash drives for whatever else not related to PC gaming, as pictures and videos taken from smartphones.

I remember buying games on floppy disks in my younger time, they also disappeared from the market 😉

One of the main reasons I buy physical is to display the box within the game room as decor. Nearly any physical copy comes with some sort of digital tie in that allows you to manage the game as if you bought it digitally making the physical aspect somewhat of a collector's hobby.

I do have a physical Blu-Ray drive as well which is intended for uses other than gaming.

Are all your physical disc copies for PC, Neo, or are some or most for consoles?

My systems always have optical drives oh and btw out of sheer nutterness I bought a floopy drive to haha which I can access sheer old stuff I have for giggles. But thats me tangenting.

Personally I would love to have all physical boxes. But due to space I cant. I will still do my collectors editions cause I love the bits and bobs and am sure most of ya have seen my desk at somepoint covered in them lol

So to me Pyshical is nicer to have plus offline installing to.

I've seen your desk, it's something to behold. 😉

You didn't tell me about the floppy, is it a 5¼ or a 3½ inch for the new PC? 🤔

I have all modern consoles so there is a healthy divide across all systems.
