I want to confirm that I also have experienced tons of people dying in the game, from the little girl, to the ship builder at the beginning. Can no longer progress due to all the dead npcs.

I have ended up having to go back 12 hours, but its my own fault for using more quicksaves than manuals, I used super dmg and a cutscene killed someone I needed later on, its unfortunate but its at your own risk.

probably because

1) you didn't read the instructions
2) which tell you that the super damage option should be left off and used sparingly and
3) tells you to save the game quite often to avoid things like this

Hello there!

I'm writing this to help you out with the spear upgrades and the fact that you will lose your artefacts fragments after loading or quitting the game, even if it isn't shown in your inventory.

To prevent from doing so, I use option 7 (unlimited arrows/objects) of the trainer BEFORE upgrading my spear to the Forge.

STEP 1 : Activate option 7, upgrade you spear.
STEP 2 : Save your game with option 7 STILL ACTIVATED.
STEP 3 : Quit your game, then reload it.
STEP 4 : At the main menu of the game, activate the trainer (F1) and the option 7. STEP 5 : Load your savegame and you'll see that the amount of artefacts won't diminish nor disappear.

NEVER SAVE OR LOAD THE GAME WITHOUT OPTION 7 ACTIVATED AT THE MAIN MENU (WHEN YOU LOAD) OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FRAGMENTS.

Do it each time you quit and load the game or you will lose your fragments, even with an old loaded savegame. I personally didn't use option 7 except for upgrading the spear.

I hope I helped those of you in need and sorry for my bad English, I'm French.

P.S : This method may work with other trainer options that prevent objects consumption, but it sure works with option 7.

You will lose after loading the game/savegame the amount of fragments you're suppossed to spend on the upgrade. If you don't upgrade your spear, you won't lose any fragment.

But, as soon as you cheat for upgrading the spear with option 7 and prevent from losing those fragments, you need to activate option 7 when you save/quit your game and then when you load/launch your game (at the main menu as for the trainer activation).

is there a way to avoid causing it at all ?

Do any of the current options allow you to upgrade your ship for free? Just checking because I've had no luck getting it to work, but don't want to unnecessarily request a new option or anything either

yes, can't remember the exact one, its either blacksmith free upgrades or inventory craft.
