I want to update my previous post. You either need to have GOLD, or sell something to have the option actually work as intended.
Regarding free blacksmith, as Caliber said before and I realized by using it myself the option only makes it appear like you got the mats and such, but it still consumes what you actually have, so if you upgrade something that costs more gold than what you have you go to 0, but if you have more gold than what it costs it just takes that away and leaves you with the rest

Could someone here upload a save of after the temple without the mask? Or around that time to fix it myself? My last save from before the temple is after 1.5hours so it would be insanely annoying to repeat hours of progress. The save folder is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegame\
