Ok so just today I've been trying to get the trainer to work and every time it launches it gives the normal cheathappens splash then it reverts to windows asking what program to open a .tmp file with.
I've gone through the cleanout process of removing the trainer and all of the temp files and other associated folders as detailed in this thread. Rebooting and extracting the trainer again and the issue persists. It did work fine before not sure what has changed.
I've set an AV protection exception in MS for this Executeable and it doesn't work. I turn Real time scanning off and the program launches just fine.
I'd prefer to have this running as setting an exception in MS defender or whatever you want to call it.
I suspect windows security is locking the temp file for scanning for some reason and I'm not sure as to why. Perhaps you folks can replicate this?
It has been flagged, you now have to go into protection history and find it then set it to ALLOW.
I have gone through the list of troubleshooting for the trainer, allowed Access through my Firewall, turned off the firewall, ive even run the game offline and turned off my internet. Ive also run the cleaner, nothing has helped. Whenever i try to launch the trainer i get "windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions to access the Item."
I was able to get the trainer to launch when i realized i was using the wrong version, im using Steam + Ubisoft Connect, but when i launched the game it closed the trainer and i continued to get the previous mentioned message.
If theres any other methods i can try let me know. if im wasting time feel free to call me stupid 😅
I was able to fix my problem, apparently i needed to exempt 3 things through my Windows Defender. Thanks for the help.
You need to be in the ability screen first then activate it, then either tab to a different screen and go back to it or just spend a point after activating, the value should update, was working for me when I tried it using Steam version.
I don't think that function wants to work for me at all. Using both those methods, hotkeys on and off (I had to alt-tab from the game while in the Ability tab for off), nothing that should've happened, happened. It was as if I'd never picked the option. And it's not as if I didn't use reasonable values, I picked 625 first, then just plain old 25 (the default value) later.

Clean out any older trainer data that may be still in the working directories and try it again.
Delete trainer and all files in
C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\Cheathappens\Work
C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\Cheat Happens\0x90
C:\ProgramData\CheatHappens
Learn how to make your own Trainer Cleaner for the above paths Here. Link
Reboot PC to clear excess memory, get a fresh copy of latest trainer and extract it. Run trainer as admin, read the instructions and try again. At times, a new game may be needed to resolve failed options if the data in your save file was altered. Use on a new game and test the option. If it now works, quit to main menu and load your save and try it again. May also need to run the game without the trainer first and play a bit so the save file gets updated to use possible new values.
Well, I managed to clean out some of the folders (as much of Temp as the system would allow, anyway, and Work), but C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\Cheat Happens never had a folder named 0x90 for me, but it does have a folder called Trainer Settings, with four .xml files therein: 73908, 75642, 75776 and Global.
C:\ProgramData has never had a CheatHappens folder because of the Odyssey trainer, so there was nothing to delete there
XP and Abilities didn't work on a new game (not new game plus, a regular new game), either.
