As I have stated over and over, it's nuts that anti-cheat software has gone to the point of live, kernel mode driver, malware like, operating system manipulation like a rootkit virus to change the function of your actual running OS KERNEL systemwide to protect VIDEO GAMES, lock down running processes, and prevent you from using tools (even anti malware tools!) to address what they have done/changed. I've also made the case that at some point, people who have BAD INTENTIONS are going to get ahold of this stuff, reverse it, then use it to create some pretty evil stuff to hijack or otherwise control your OS for whatever purposes they deem necessary..

We've mostly had to deal with Easy Anti Cheat for some of the games, even on SINGLE PLAYER MODES. However Xigncode is another anti cheat software, and here we see that it's being reversed and implications on how it can be used in reverse, i.e. to not defend but to attack the kernel... remember ALSO, these are SIGNED drivers that Microsoft is allowing onto the public that your OS thinks are 'safe', and so they don't set off any viral alerts...

How many times does things have to eventually go wrong, where these anti cheat people have taken a step to far and created something that then turns into a real problem. Right now thousands of 'cheats' are using the CAPCOM driver that was part of a game release to inject non signed drivers doing all manner of things into people's running kernels.. years later...

For many, this will be over your head, but just keep in mind, you are running games in many cases that are doing this sort of stuff to your system, your live running operating system, and exposing you (and whomever else takes this stuff and expounds on it and creates nefarious software for use on the masses) to these coming problems..

It's just a matter of time..

And today's news of Denuvo developing "anti-cheat" solution is... chilling. Maybe I'm paranoid but it's mighty suspicious in the age of sticking goddamn micropayments even to single player games.

My paranoid tinfoil hat theory is that it may be used to prevent trainers in games too. And that's something I don't want to accept as a customer because I can play my single player games however I damn please.

Preventing cheats online is a good thing though and I wholeheartedly support that. But basing on what's been happening it's hard not to look for hidden agendas

Doubtful, at least not intentionally. The article at PC gamer suggests it's multiplayer related, e-sports related and about protecting microtransactions, none of which we do anything with anyways. Also, Denuvo has had anti-cheat measures in it for some time now that we have dealt with successfully.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Maybe it's paranoid but AAA game companies prove time and again that they won't stop. Remember WB and Shadow of War?
