I am looking for an antivirus that does not still block my trainers even after adding them to the ignore list. I would like one that is a good all around anti-malware program preferably free but I am willing to buy new protection. Currently, I use Webroot as it came with my laptop, I basically have to shut it down completely in order to use any trainers.

also, it's weird how I can start a trainer with just the real-time shield off and then 5-10 mins later it closes the trainer although some of the cheats persist lol I know its how the coding works in the game itself but I still think its weird.

This is actually a 'special' feature of Webroot.

You still can use our trainers with it. -> Open Advanced Settings, select Scan Settings, uncheck Detect Potentially Unwanted Applications and Save this setting. The drawback here is that you now need to be sure about the source of origin of any application you want to download and install on your PC.

Webroot is not able to exclude whole folders (something McAfee isn't capable of as well) which is necessary here but can make it with the workaround mentioned above.

AV recommendations always depend on your situation. Are you a beginner or expert? Do you visit questionable internet sources or not? Do you click on each link or not?

There are a couple of "public recommended" AVs such as:
- Bitdefender
- Kaspersky
- Comodo
- Malwarebytes

The reaon why they are recommended is because they have their own "intelligence" which decides which files get blocked and which not. They rather go for "block everything" than for "if its not known as 100% dangerous, leave it as it is". This gives them perfect results on a very plain technically tests.

That makes sene for users who don't have the knowledge to decide on their own nor want to get asked for it. But it also makes it very difficult to create exception and false alerts are appeearing more often.

There are other AVs which are not that recommended because they only block malware which is 100% identified as such. This gives them bad results on technical tests for unknown malware but they are absolutely fine to use for users who are not doing questionable things. These AVs may be:
- Microsoft Defender
- Avira
- GData

See for yourself what type you are, how much you increase the danger of receiing malware by your behavior in the internet. Then find an AV which matches your expectation of security and does not bother you with false alarms.

I happen to use Panda Global Protection, it sometimes throws a small fit over the odd CH trainer but as soon as I put it in the exception list it's fine. 97% of the time it's fine and as far as I know it's always caught anything nasty

Tried changing that setting in Webroot still was blocked. I'm no novice as I'm getting an IT degree just wondering if anyone had any luck with any other AV instead of going through the long troubleshooting process. Hell half of IT is google searching solutions or looking things up on support forms lol

I was in the A V business for 14years.
In that time, I have personally used almost all av's made.
I also was privy to test done on each for viruses coaught and false positives.
I 'used' to use Avira paid version for many many years. It was the best. Until lately, when it startedmessing with my games themselves.
I then went to Norton Antivirus. It has a mode called Silent mode, where you can basically disable it for 24 hours, or 1 hour, and it wont do anything but catch memory viruses or opened downloaded viruses. This is the best for being protected and it not interfering with games at all.
NOD is the 3rd AV I would recommend. It is very good at catching. Dont know about gaming though.
ALL av or such has to have a whitelist for trainers though.
