I have been changing the hotkeys (x-box controller) but it does not save, while looking at the debug log it shows that it failed to load stating that it is a newer trainer. is there a way around this or do i have to change the hotkeys every time i load the trainer?
It's necessary to delete custom key settings when using an updated trainer. Save location is here -> C:\Users\YourWindowsUserName\Cheathappens\Keys\ or use the trainer options to reset the trainer or remove the custom settings.

After some trials and errors, this has caused my game to be deleted.
Your anti-virus detected the memory injection to the game and killed it, you have to add the proper exclusions to your security software and live scan/smart screen filters.
