This is by default the fault of Norton Anti Virus, I don't blame ANYONE working at cheat-happens, but I booted up my computer this morning, started up steam, opened up a folder where I keep my trainers, (around 60 of them, which usually need updating since my day to day mood for which game to play changes) and suddenly Norton Antivirus goes into full-on overdrive berserk-er mode..

Almost eating FOURTEEN of the trainers, needlessly to say.. whatever you guys are doing to try and automate the updating of said trainers is -really- ****ing off Norton's 360 Premier complete protection, and holy crap is it aggressive, I mean, I've seen it eat maybe one or two trainers every week or so, but FIFTEEN in one go? Wow. Impressive.

I know you guys hate most kinds of anti-virus because you always recommend we uninstall them if there's even a slight error on our end, but what in the name of Terra did you guys do to **** off the Norton Antivirus team?

Included a linky as proof. i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd18/Esclayer/Capture_zps6kwqum5t.png

TL;DR Anti-virus went nuts and ate 15 trainers, anyone else have stories of Norton Antivirus going berserk?

Edit; Issue is resolved, but hopefully this tread can remain?

You did have completely excluded your trainer folder from any scans Norton has to offer?

Norton has always been trouble with trainers. We don't know why or when they change their product's sensitivity, signature database, etc. If we could create some kind of trainer "forcefield" so that no AV would ever be able to detect our trainers as viruses, believe me, we would do it. For now, you can just complain to Norton that it's deleting valid, non-malicious files even when disabled or excluded. Tell them to fix it or refund your purchase so you can buy a better security product.

actually our newest DRM is much less 'involved'.

the TM does not automate updates, it simply looks at versioning info that is in every program on earth, compares to a file on our server, then lets you know your trainer is out of date. it 'may' automate in the future, but right now all this stuff the TM does or the trainer itself does regarding checking versions is harmless windows api calls to version or internet calls to our site.

I guess premier protection means that it removes anything it wants whether you like it or not, protecting you from anything it thinks is suspicious, whether you like it or not. That sounds more like tyrannical protection. Most people locked in solitary confinement are protected from everyone, everything, and even themselves. Is this really protection?

    best,

I'm not sure why this happened to you, cause I use the same thing and it hasn't happened to me, and I have used them for years. Make sure the folder you save your trainers in is completely excluded from all scans it makes, you can do this in the settings by excluding the folder entirely.

    Hope that helps,

    Loki

Hmm, maybe I'm going about this in a wrong way, could you perhaps send me a PM on how to exclude a folder from the passive and active scanning from Norton?

Cheers people, managed to exclude a folder from -all- of the norton scans, both active, passive and from its Sonar, auto-protect and Download intelligence, and since its not a window32 folder I don't have to worry about nasty viruses or trojans trying to sneak their way into the folder hiding among the metric ton of files there.
