I'm sure it's fixed by now but the last time I used McAfee, it had this weird bug where it would consistently spam Windows 10 with toast notifications while it attempted to update itself no matter what you were doing.

Needless to say, McAfee has some issues beyond interfering with games that needs to be sorted out. Wouldn't recommend under any circumstances. It's hilariously the one AV that hands out free licenses like candy as well (there's a 90% chance that your ISP offers the base version for free if for some reason you do want this).
    Your bitterness, I will dispel

I worked for Symantec (Norton) for 14 years (and would be still working for them if not for my disabilities).
I can tell you that we had lots of independent studies that were run on ALL AV's (meaning no one paid them to jink results, as both paid and free av's were reviewed), and I can tell you that the top 3 consistently with the least amount of false positive and most caught real viruses were:
    Avira Antivirus
    Symantec Antivirus
    ESET Nod32

I can also tell you that some of that changed when AV engines were tweaked to 'try' to catch day 1 viruses, and now all AV's get more false positives.

But, I still have a subscription to one of the better, if not the best, AV Comparitives, and those 3 are consistently in the top.
MS is about middle of the pack, with it not catching a lot of even known viruses.
THE best free AV is Avira (dont bother with the firewall version, as it only uses the windows FW, whereas Symantec uses their own Firewall software, which is much better than MS built in), as they use their same engine in free and in paid, and their updates are the same also (AV list updates). If you are using any other free AV, its worse than MS.

Personally, I use Avira and Malwarebytes (both paid versions), but I go light on the PUP's, and tell them to warn me when one is found, I never turn them off.

Such as? Since the Windows Creators Update Defender now got its own Security Centre.

From there you can access the SmartScreen settings (I suggest switching to Warn Me instead of Block), the Firewall and Defender settings itself.

Good for health, bad for education.

I've always used ESET NOD32 and I've never had any issues with trainers from CH, though it certainly makes a habit of flagging other kinds of software. 😉

This security Center is crap 😣

I never was a fan of SmartScreen and I can't find the quarantine. I'm getting really tired of it.

I'm getting this errors now from the Kingdom Trainer.

I have to agree. Although it looks nice, the UX design of it was poorly thought out. I have trouble navigating where I want to go and have to resort to brute forcing the menus.

360 Antivirus(not Norton) is pretty good, as far as I'm concerned. Then again, whenever my system goes down I just reinstall; Windows isn't my favorite OS and I don't store anything important there. You can always whitelist, and the best way to stay secure is to take preventative action. Don't open ports, don't open attachments that you can't be totally sure of, display file extensions, etc.
