For Antivirus, I have been using Kaspersky; but that seemed to interfere with BattleNet games (WoW, Starcraft 2, etc). I switched to Windows Defender now. It seems to cooperate ok with Trainers so far, but wanted to know what you guys think about it... Do any of you use it? If yes, does it work good with Trainers? If not, what do you guys suggest to use? Thoughts on this appreciated

I use it and it almost never blocks the trainers.

I use it also along with Windows Firewall and Malwarebytes. It is so much better, rarely interferes with trainers and is as efficient/effective as most security solutions. It also utilises way less resources and makes my PC run more smoothly.

I've have very very few issues with Windows Defender and trainers. The only trainers I've had issues with were the older ones like the one for Star Wars: Empire at War.

I run Windows Defender, Anti-malwarebytes and comodo. Comodo can be a major pain to set up right and has given me trouble with programs and trainers but it is more strict than defender, which I like.

I did this as well a while back. I still run a Malwarebytes manual scan from time to time just as a backup.

Personally I find Win Defender annoying as hell(And when offering Tech help Win Defender is sometimes the cause).

so I use something better, imo.
    iObits's Malware Fighter

Free version does the trick, Pro version can easily be bypassed.

MF takes over the job of WinDefender and so WD gets fully disabled so no more having to manually disable its realtime scanning and have it re enable itself hours later.

Now while its true WD as far as I know doesnt interfere with trainers, its not exactly equipped to detect all that many things either..

But the point that I prefer it disabled is exactly due to its Realtime scanning. While gaming it can cause performance conflicts if the scanner is accessing game files. In addition to slowing the system as a whole down.

Now personally ive never had that issue as 1: I have an SSD and 2: before I got iMF I always turned off the realtime scanner.

Now.. the benefits over iMF to WD are
iMF has a lesser resource footprint than WD does

iMF can be FULLY closed out and processes ended while keeping WD disabled.
Though I can say that, with iMFs processes running even though the program itself isn't, I have noticed that it can block CERTAIN trainers from being used, mainly having to do with the temp file they use.

But that's easily fixed by either excluding the file or by closing out the 2 iMF processes.

In short what i'm saying is
Malwarebytes and iMF are worth being used together
Windows Defender on the other hand is better off being replaced by either iMF or another program that takes over its functions.

For your information, most anti-virus/malware programs have a built-in "exceptions rule" that allow you to bypass the scanning of your chosen files, thus eliminating some frustrations 🙂

It's just a matter of finding this "*&!%#$?@^$&" of "exceptions rule" to ease the big nerve, some make it hard, some make it easy. In my case, using "Microsoft Security Essentials" dried a lot of sweat (3 clicks, bit of writing and done)!

Yep, I know, it comes only with Widows 7 (or so I heard), they upgraded the thing to make it more consistent with their new inquisitive schemes and gave it a new name, duh!, but still the "exceptions rule" is supposed to be there...somewhere 💣
