Is there a 100% guarantee you will get the contents of a drop? Nope.
That review is funny as hell, they have been communicating for months about the drop pack and its low cost and the fact it would be a scramble to get it. The feature itself has been in various other games like Rust etc which adds a bit of excitement to the game.
But as usual people are being dumb about it, and posting their inane ramblings on forums etc. Because they think they know what they are talking about but aren't, because like most people they follow the masses and just reiterate what one guy has said.
It's the same with the EA thing, when people just followed like sheep and complained about EA. But yet still played their games mostly illegally.
Then people crying about pre-order bonuses etc, and why it shouldn't be done.. because one bad game means all games with pre-order bonuses ... it is almost laughably sad.
Like that review.. he said on RELEASE DAY.... er no it hasn't been released yet, only the alpha access. And no they haven't done a 180 last minute they have talked about supply drops for months as I have said above.
Also the reviewers excuse is BS also, that is the rambling of someone who didn't go back to check previous blogs etc to show they initially were thinking about it months ago to the implementation a bit later.
It comes down to simply either get it for free when it comes out, or not.
Some people just don't understand that F2P has to have micro-transactions of some type to survive, or else it wont. It is simple economics, F2P needs money to pay for servers, staff, etc.
Again I will iterate P2W means you pay for something and you get it to get an advantage, the drops are not guarantee you will get it.. so you if you don't get it you aren't winning. Plus the contents as they have said many times are nothing amazingly special, and will only be useful for a while.

Also I know the meaning of f2p its the worst kind of games ever nobody wants that.
I prefer the game to cost 100$ and not to be a f2p p2w piece of crap!
It is a wee bit buggy and servers are hard to get on, due to it still in early days of the Alpha.
I respect peoples views when they aren't the insane ramblings of kids spending on something without checking, and trying to get their money back.
So yeah. If you read all the reviews you can see how eerily similar some of the arguments are, and not all reviews are negative.
The devs themselves told people that it is Alpha, if people don't want to pay to get in early (people who paid get a bonus or two on actual full release) then wait until the release.
People will complain now because somehow it is the norm to do so.
So I played it a little bit for myself to find out if the complaints and whining are justified and my god it's even worst than I thought.
I'm not going to talk about the bugs because it's alpha and surprisingly it runs pretty smooth at least for me.
The thing I would like to point out is that I didnt even get to the part of the "p2w or not", the 2007' graphics just shocked me right away, especially the weather system the rain oh the rain!
This game makes Dayz look like Far Cry 4.
and the kitschy "scary" tones oh boy.. so far for atmosphere and true survival feeling.
But I promise that I will get to the bottom of the issue whether its p2w or not before I'll write a review over steam.
Once it gets into beta stage you will see the changes.
From what I hear there will be servers that will allow no supply drops or cosmetic items, making it a clean server, but they will be limited by a population limit.
When you think about it, it doesnt really matter if it's p2w or not, any in game purchases ruins the whole survival exp and makes it cheap.
The game itself is not too bad and and has great potential even if it's graphics are outdated and not in a good way like new retro games, at least the gameplay is dynamic and the controls are responsive enough to make this game decent.
What really amazed me is how well it's optimized for an alpha.
At the beginning the game ran pretty smooth for me on ultra settings but with occasional lag or stutter, a day after that they released a mini patch that solved that issue, since then the game runs super smooth and in it's current state it's far less buggy than Dayz which is astonishing.
Btw really liked the vid @LordVenator posted in his blog that pretty much sums up this game in a fun way: Link
