This is hopefully the last time I have to post about this. lol I use a d-link wireless modem. It's downstairs, right below me. I need a new adapter for my pc and I have narrowed it down to these two:

Is one better than the other? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Could you provide any specs of your modem or at least which model it is?

I'm thinking you mean my wireless modem? I use a d-link DAP-2253 wireless modem. It's in the room right underneath my computer.

    Right, meant your wireless modem.

Go with the TP Link as it gives the best for your buck and is reliable. – That said if you don't intend to upgrade your wireless to AC in the near future.

I did read some good things on it. Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna save a couple bucks and go with the TP link.

Generally the golden rule of thumb is, keep brands the same with routers and wireless dongles.

Also bear in mind the bandwith type you are using...

If you are using a laptop in the home and your router is an N class, get an N class dongle if you are a heavy user or a G class if you are just simply browsing and watching a few videos here and there.

As for PCI-e 1x Wireless NICs meh... you may pay a bit more for them when a Link is a bit cheaper.

Sure PCI-e 1x may be quicker but you are not going to get PCI-e 1x speeds even with an N600 class NIC/dongle (just the 600MB/s and not the GB/s from a PCI-e 1x slot), USB 2/3 can handle the speeds and you pay less.

So I take it, it's impossible to hardwire directly from router to pc?

He said it was downstairs directly. So no I think an RJ45 is out of the question.
