For myself, when I picture a leader of a military force I picture someone ironclad with a shield or two-hander. That being said the history pre-sets do a good job at giving pretty much anyone a reason for being at the Conclave in the prologue.

Rogue also makes sense, a herald that relies more on commanding from behind the front line or with a more nimble fighting style, utilizing traps and strategy instead of brute force.

I feel you can't go wrong either way from an RP perspective.

I've tried an archer and two-handed weapons and I am enjoying them quite a bit, I do good damage and have enough armor to hold my own. I would think that a melee rogue would have the most damage output, but be easier to kill, though I haven't tried it.

    Spoiler:
One of the mage specializations later on focuses on using a magic sword, though I'm not sure if that counts.

Well, for me, i am more of a fan of melee classes, but dragon age, while the game and stories tend to be fun to play, the classes and their abilities tend to be, not so good, where abilities last 5 seconds, but have 25+ seconds cooldown, it just seems iffy to use, especially when the damage it does it pathetic.

well Tried warrior and Rogue Currently

Warrior 2h is sturdy and haw good survivability if you build some on defense can Also be Good Group aoe DPS If build whit DPS direction only..

Rogue Dual wilding is So far the best Damage giver of the classes and so far i haw not died even once, and if you build it right it kan in most battles be quite op

Hope this helps and this is Only my opinion from my experiences so far..

JamieK, why don't you use the fast spell cooldowns in the trainer? I find that is the one key that doesn't crash me if I forget to turn it off.
