I found a sweet combination of ships to run with as a fleet.

Destroyer - Fletcher Class
Mainly for anti-submarine

Gato Class - Submarine
To clear out harbors of enemy capitol ships, at the loss of your landing force

x2 Carriers - to wipe out convoys and smaller capitol ships

x1 - British battle cruiser
Mainly to just have some fun

That is all you really need. The npc's are really dumb and you can use your submarine to clear out most of the opposition provided they don't run away. But you can surface and dive at an instance which means you can run surfaced until there guns fire then dive and safe. Just keep prairie dogging it all the way until they are within torpedo range.
