I am specifically waiting on this to launch because I just can't play "most of" a game like an old shareware title, haha. I'm extremely happy to have backed them on Kickstarter, and it's rad of them to extend the beta to backers like they've done, but it looks SO AWESOME that I just can't play an unfinished version of it, silly as that may sound.
Same reason I waited for Divinity: Original Sin, same reason I'm waiting for Pillars of Eternity - for some reason though I'm totally fine beta testing Defense Grid 2, and doing bug reports and all that. Probably because there's so much less engagement and story to work with - how many times have I replayed various maps in the first game and the expansions, what's a few more with better graphics and interesting new mechanics?
It isn't even to do with how much I personally value the product, either. I spent an order of magnitude more on the Defense Grid 2 KS. Just a very different kind of gameplay that is in no way "spoiled" by being not-so-complete, I guess, since there's no narrative spoilers to speak of and it's just getting the mechanics of the game to work.
I still really appreciate everyone who did and who still is participating in the beta, since I know it's thanks to your efforts that they'll be able to launch a product that's as good as it can possibly be when the time comes.
Beta or not, every version is different somehow. If the developer would be up to extend the game with a multiplayer option...but i must wake up
