Is there a certain way or particular to use the Shard (F6) cheat? Whenever I press it I here "ACTIVATED" but no sign of additional shard(s)

Seems like I'm having Fairy trouble too. Any info on when to use this cheat?
Update: Okay so I caste the fairy cheat then went to the pause screen. When I went back to the game I have 99 fairys. The new problem is that I they won't cast.

These particular cheats corrupted my save. Now the game just stay frozen in the abilities page. And I was in chapter 6. Gonna need to restart the game and I must say this game SUCKS. (camera and QTE wise). If it wasn't for the trainer, i wouldn't have gone so far, and wouldn't restart either.
