Seems that on March 18, 2014 Blizz will be shutting down the auction houses on Diablo 3. I think this might lead the way into them making an offline single-player experience. At least I hope it does, as they claimed the only reason it required Always On DRM was because of the auction houses.
Kill a thousand men and they will hate you. Kill a million men and they will queue to face you. But kill a single man and they will see monsters and devils in every shadow.

They aren't ever going to make an offline mode. It's considered "ideal" by Blizzard.

    Link

It's on several video game news websites.

not for PC, getting online is the most addictive aspect in playing videogame and it means more money for developer. blizzard is not the type that will pass this opportunity.

i think console version is just water testing for diablo 3. if success, i bet blizzard will make full online version for next diablo in console.

It will just drive away the console market.
Blizzard will probably make offline and online in future Diablo releases if there are going to be any. Since XBOX One got bashed alot for it's always online function by console users.

I disagree, i play on my own when i play Diablo 3 and any other 'always online' games, playing with other people just ruins the experience for me, i like to think i am fighting for humanities' survival with just my companion for assistance.

If i have other players there too, it kinda ruins the whole feel of the game.

So, while i know it will never happen, i do hope for a offline mode, with achievements and everything.

They already have an "Offline" mode for the PS3 Console version.
The "Always online" feature for the PC bothered me at first, but, then aside from being incredibly easy,i got used to it.

It's not so bad. You have private severs that only you and whatever friend/s you want to add. Which is pretty much akin to playing offline.

The single player experience is great for D3. I love it.
Leveled up all toons to 60+ and still playing to this day.
