Sadly Nvidia also adopted this system with their buggy drivers, not only I bought their card I've been a driver beta tester for two months now..

    examples

    wargame airland battle
    payday / payday 2
    fallen enchantress
    crusader kings 2
    Europa universalis 4
    shadowrun
    stardrive
    endless space

and you can add pretty much any game that lets you have alpha or beta status after you buy it. even when those games 'go gold' they are still broken.

I could go on but it felt good to vent..

While I agree it is incredibly frustrating, and that most of the examples you listed are fair ones, some of them (Endless Space, Shadowrun, Stardrive especially), have/had really quite limited resources.

I know Stardrive has had about 20 patches put out, and for awhile there was doing at least one a day, but until recently the "company" was one guy at a desk in his bedroom. I don't think it's fair to say "Company X sucks!" when they are at least trying to improve/fix their product. A great deal of these indie /non-mainstream devs lack the kind of experience, resources, and leeway to be able to release a game with very few issues (Unlike say, EA, Bethesda, or Blizzard... .... .....) When it comes to Shadowrun...I'm not really going to argue because HBS has done quite a few less than professional things since they started up.

Look at CheatHappens, you guys have limited resources, but do a wonderful job the vast majority of the time. Are there sometimes problems/issues? Absolutely. At the same time I don't know that very many people could complain about the value of the services/products you folks provide. However, I'm sure there is someone out there who has asked for a trainer for "game x" or for a feature to be added to a trainer that won't be added, who might feel like CH "sucks." (Where's my "Dust: A Tale of the Wired West" trainer? ) Just because you're a small company that is unable to do all things for all people all the time doesn't mean you suck, and the same goes for many dev companies.

I may be confused about what you mean by "sucks" since to my mind most of the games you listed are good games that while not without some issues, are fun. Hammerpoint Interactive, Novacore Studios, Topware Interactive, and others are devs I'd classify as sucking. Paradox, Eugen, etc. have some issues but they don't suck. I mean I can predict right now that when Creative Assembly's Total War: Rome II releases, there will be gads of patches, because that happens every single time they release a game. But I wouldn't, by any stretch of the imagination say that Creative Assembly sucks.

This is why I feel that we should not touch alpha or beta games. They cause just too much hassle.

@Harthouse In my course work of games art and animation and freelance beta testing I have to say the these indie game makers need to do a lot more testing before even releasing. As I have been extremely frustrated with them lately myself. They have so much potential but are hindered by their updates. Even tho! They are trying to actively fix the problems. It just puts more work on to the CHT or any modders. Even if it means taking a bit more time to before they are released then so be it.

And that's one of the reasons why I don't use steam.
